"In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree :
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea." - Coleridge
I twirled the keys to my new place at 3498 Xanadu Way between my fingers. Part of the appeal of my new home was the street it sat on: Xanadu! For an entire month, I'd recite the first verse of the Coleridge poem everytime my Jetta would turn onto the winding road that took me home. Three years later, I occasionally catch myself audibly delivering the lines just as I activate the blinker to turn onto Xanadu Way. Just like I did today.

I still can't believe they based a movie on that poem. And made it about roller skating, of all things.
Best. Movie. Ever!
Olivia Newton John said it best:
The dream that came through a million years
That lived on through all the tears
It came to Xanadu.
A million lights are dancing
...
Xanadu - Xanadu (now we are here)
...
Now that I'm here now that you're near in Xanadu.
I've actually never seen it. I'm always doing that, referencing things I've only heard about. It gets me by, though.
birds of a feather...
Never seen it either - looks lame, thus my comment was meant to be facetious. I must also confess that I've never heard the Olivia Newton John song.
BUT, the point you bring about is a good one. As the saying goes: "Imitation is the best form of flattery," the movies, the songs, and the countless attempts of interpretation solidify the fact that this poem must somehow kick ass and by extention, I kick ass for living on Xanadu Way!!!
